A Glimpse of the Past – Part Two

The Devil is playing the fiddle again. The air is singing, the room spinning, and everyone is somewhere else. Hands keep clapping the rhythm, but can’t keep up with the beat. Counting two, counting three, counting five. What did just happen?
People are humming, but don’t know the tune. Rolling movements in a steady pace. But the music is of a different tempo, a different place. Rocking the ears, making this room tremble. The Devil is playing the fiddle again, and everyone knows his spell.

In Norwegian traditional music there are stories of musicians selling their souls to the Devil, while learning to play the fiddle. Some of the reasons for these stories are not only the existence of talented players, but also the manner some tunes were performed. It was not too unusual for the player(s) to be entering some kind of trace.
